Incarceration Activity Box for Kids

Voices of the incarcerated are often silenced without empathy, understanding, or support. People who are incarcerated have family and loved ones, and sometimes children who they desperately want to have a relationship with, but it can be difficult to make a real connection. Those who have a loved one incarcerated sometimes feel isolated, confused, or unsure how to build that connection. 

Little Justice Leaders and the Robert and Susan Kozlowski L.I.F.T. Foundation partnered to develop an activity kit for children who have an incarcerated loved one. This box is full of resources for engaging in conversations and activities for young people (ages 5-12) who have an incarcerated loved one. It includes a picture book, art project supplies, and ideas for bonding. 

Our goal is to provide just a few tools that are fun and engaging so children and incarcerated individuals can create a bond. This includes activities they can do together and ways for kids to learn more about the person who is away. 

If a child in your life has an incarcerated parent, caregiver, sibling, family member, or loved one, we have an activity box for them! What's in the kit?

Each kit is focused on a learning experience around a specific social justice theme. The learning kit will include a children's book, a piece of activist art (such as a sticker or poster), a series of informational cards for adults, and a suite of digital resources such as lesson plans and activities.
